Regular therapy prescribed for mothers identified as having Gestational, or perhaps pregnancy related diabetes, at one time was insulin - the exact same first line treatment for people who have been diagnosed with Type one diabetes. Similar to Type two diabetes, Gestational diabetes is caused not by insufficient insulin, as is the case in Type one diabetes, but by the body's resistance to insulin. Since diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy more closely resembles Type two diabetes than Type one, medicines for treating Type two diabetes may be used for dealing with Gestational diabetes, at the same time. Both metformin as well as glibenclamide have been proven effective, but little research has been performed to learn which one gives better results.
